Local Produce, Tamu Kianggeh

Local produce. Tamu Kianggeh Brunei.

A cornucopia
Of blessings from the earth
Abundance for a price

The food stalls here serve Brunei's cheapest meals, including nasi katok (plain rice, a piece of fried or curried chicken and sambal; B$1) and nasi lemak (rice cooked in coconut milk and served with chicken, beef or prawn, egg and cucumber slices; also B$1). In the market's northeast corner, a vegetarian-Chinese stall called Tamu Chakoi serves a variety of inexpensive fried pastries and noodle dishes. We like the stalls for their food; we love them because this is one of the few places in Brunei that feels a little chaotic and messy, which is a little refreshing. ~ Bernard
